Wonders of Midwinter

Some people may ask if I have the title from Anne Rice and her book "wolves of midwinter". To that I have to say... some of the idea yes, but certainly not the way you think. Because what I write to you, is what I have always believed in.

I have always loved christmas, when I was a little child I almost every christmas got ill of anticipation. I couldn't even go around the christmas tree at one time. Have to say that in Denmark we "dance" or walk round the christmas tree singing carols.

For me the christmas was warmth, a hot room with kindness and the tree, full of colours and shapes. Today, when I think of christmas its colours and the tree, every year I buy a new glass figurine for my tree, I have everything from Star Wars to disco balls on my tree, you can spend hours looking at it and still find new figures. Thats what I love.

The christmas in christian terms, with baby jesus being born and so forth. I dont believe in. Even when I was a child and we went to church christmas day, in Denmark dec. 24. I was bored, I really didn't believe the stories the priest told. In school when we were told about jesus and other bible related things I was like, yeah right! And started drawing something in my book. Even when we had our confirmation, at age 14 for me. I really did not want to do it, it was not for me I did it, it wasn't even for my parents who wanted me to do it. The day in church, the party after, I really disliked every part of it. So to get back on track, for me it is midwinter, the beginning of a new year, where the sun comes back and give us summer back.

I do like the idea of Santa. The giver of good, just like nature giving back the sun and summer. So Santa is part of my christmas too, i especially liked the santa in "Rise of the Guardians" which is a great movie. He is rugged, tattooed and very manly!
Whereas CocaCola is more like a grandpa cozy kinda guy.

I believe that the midwinter festivities will go on long after people are over religion. There will always be parties, gatherings that celebrate the power of nature and thats the wonders of midwinter

So as I was talking about last time I wanted some new thing for my christmas tree. Guess what I found it!

I was browsing the internet and found different usage for those LED tea-lights and they where sweet, some used them for the head of a snowman, so the "flame" is the nose. But that was definitely not what I wanted. Then I saw someone making small paper baskets and they hung them below a christmas glass ball. I thought that was so sweet but something was missing! Big time!

Saw lots of other good ideas and then it dawned on me! Why not put the tea-light underneath the glass ball, then you have a proper old style air ballon with flames and all!

So thats what I did:

And that was what I came up with. The "basket" kan be decorated the way you want and so can the balloon. You can use paint if you want that, was even playing with the idea to paint "OZ" on one of the balloons... all those wonderful ideas, I think I might explode in glitter and shiny... stuff!

So every year i make something for my christmas tree. Last year it was glass balls, sounds fragile right ;-)
And I was thinking something like it, but I just can't get my head into what it should be. I've been thinking Mickey Mouse again and I don't want that!

The year before that it was patchwork flags, in Denmark we decorate the tree with flags... don't ask me why, perhaps because there's a cross in it?

So now I have to come up with something different. I have friends giving me lots of ideas, they're great dont get me wrong, it's just things that I dont want on my tree. And if I dont want it on my tree, why make it?

So now the search is on! and ofcourse I'll be posting it here, there and every where for people to see.
The joy of christmas for me is the DIY the warmth of the fire and friends coming to visit!

I Wonder How

I Wonder How

So Im a sucker for DIY projects. The last one was painting my doors in my house.... note to self... do not do that again, unless you have the space for it!

And in another life I should have been a home decorator. I just love going on garage sales and buy stuff.. chairs, tables you name it. But still I only have a house I dont have a mansion - well that would be nice with a mansion to store all my stuff.

Lately I have been browsing some second hand groups on Facebook. and all that garbage people have stored and some is gold I tell you that! From wood to cars, its kinda fun to see the fashion in home decor changing. The black era seems to be over :-o

And the worst part og redecorating, for me, is getting rid of some of the things, that I still love. especially paintings.

I made this painting for a wall that was egyptian inspired. now I dont have room for it anymore, because of the huge size. So now its in storage. The chair is part of a corner "display" with the other egyptian artifacts.

In february I'll be going to egypt again, of course if its safe. Perhaps I will be bringing home more egyptian decor.

I wonder how it will turn out!

Wonders of Medicine

It´s no secret that i work in healthcare, I see sick people almost daily. I have been the last person a person ever saw, in this life. I help people get better. I laugh with people who have almost nothing to laugh about.

When I see yet another health crisis in the world. I admit, I don´t even care. We have had the swine flu and now we have the ebola virus.

Yes people have died from ebola, but now it seems that everybody´s cured that have had it. At least in the developed countries. Is the disease such a threat to the world? or is it just one of those media sicknesses that just go blah in a few years?

The world is overpopulated, thats a fact. Do we need a new plague to get rid of the excess? Its a scary thought! But none of those diseases in the later years haven´t been able to have the same impact as "the black death" or "the Spanish flu" are we getting too good at fighting them?

What we have learned these few decades is that, we cannot control the spreading of the disease, no matter how hard we try, nature will find a way. Good or bad.

The wonders of medicine are strong, but will they be great enough to overcome a black death or a spanish flu?

So I was looking through my favorite movie news site - www.filmz.dk - and came across an article about a new Steve Jobs movie, one where Christian Bale is to play the lead role.
I can easily imagine CB playing that part. But I´m still thinking, why another movie.
I´m not an apple fan nor do I own an apple device. I would never go to see it and none of my friends, that I know of, would go to see that movie. There´s a reason the other movies did poorly theres no market for them.

Now writing on a macbook pro... I think... Well it's my husbands.

I really think that the firm, not just Jobs did a great job making apple such a big and amazing company, but thats it. I would never buy an apple product, if you buy one its useless, you need more than the iPhone to get everything to work together.

My husband have an iPad and this macbook. He did have (still have, gonna sell it) the iPhone 5s. But have converted to Sony xperia z3.

Trouble with apple products for me. I can't get them to work properly. I mean I try to update, it goes completely bonkers. But with android products its like cutting warm butter with a guillotine. Its SO easy for me. And of course that is what I buy.

For me its like choosing Levi´s over Wranglers, they are pants, but they fit differently from one another. I don't care if you buy apple, just as long as you don't force it upon me ;)

So are you gonna see the movie?

I may not watch it, maybe when it´s on tv and have had great reviews. Thats the wonders of the moving image. It can capture a glimpse of awesomeness or the waste from a porta potty. But let´s see what happens next ;)

Wunderbar or something something...

So I've been through some things the past six months or so. These things I will not mention, the people involved are not to blame. I don't even hate them. These things, they just happened.

One thing I will mention is that my husband have sclerosis. He's doing quite well if I may say so. But its a downer no matter what. He is at a rehab facility in another country and I'm home alone - all by myself... + 4 dogs. Some people think I do great alone, because I am not that much of a people person. (perhaps there's a reason they think that - or they now me less than they think they do?)

Now its time that my old daddy turns 75. Let the celebration begin. The trouble is that we're not that close in my family. I don't mind that one bit. What I do mind is playing the happy face, every time we have to have the big family celebration dinners. For me it feels fake, and I'm not that great of an actor.

These things combined and I'm not feeling that chipper. Plus my face looks angry when I'm not smiling... constantly told by mummy dearest when growing up.

So now I'm thinking way to much and as you may know. When you think, you're kinda down - everything you think is like a dream episode from The shining! the one with Jack Nicholson!
